PASSING OF RONNIE STERRITT AND DIXON ROSE

A terrible week for hockey in Ireland with the passing of two greats of our game, Ronnie Sterritt and Dixon Rose.
Ronnie was a stalwart of Cliftonville, winning many trophies during his time and serving as captain or vice-captain consecutively for over 25 years.  He also sat on the Ulster Branch for many years, chairing the disciplinary committee in this time.  A renowned tourist, Ronnie was also a member of the inaugural Ireland masters squad. Ronnie’s son Gregg still plays and coaches at Annadale club.
Dixon Rose was an Ulster and Ireland hockey International, Captain and President.   Following his playing days he served on many committees at both Ulster and Ireland level.   His services to hockey and cricket were recognised in 2008 with the award of an MBE.  Dixon’s son Johnny is still a member of Annadale and his grandson Patrick plays on the club first XI.
To Gregg, Johnny, Patrick and families we offer our deepest sympathies at this sad time.
